 In a landmark move to empower the agricultural sector and provide sustainable livelihoods, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially inaugurated the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” (AKAR) Scheme. Operating under the slogan “Apni Zameen, Apni Mehnat, Apni Fasal, Apna Rozgar,” this initiative aims to distribute state-owned agricultural land to landless farmers and unemployed youth across the province.

The official online registration portal, akar.pulse.gop.pk, was formally launched on April 21, 2026, marking a massive Rs 160 billion investment in rural economic development and poverty alleviation.

The scheme is a flagship government initiative designed to promote self-employment in rural areas by distributing agricultural land on a long-term lease. The program specifically targets landless rural residents, giving them the essential resources to start independent farming ventures and achieve economic stability.

  • Total Investment: Land worth Rs 160 billion is being allocated.

  • Lease Duration: Land will be provided on a 10-year lease (highly subsidized at Rs 100 per acre per year).

  • Land Size: Each eligible family can receive up to 5 acres of cultivable land.

  • Target Reach: Over 88,780 families will benefit from 13,812 plots across various Punjab districts, with an additional 101,111 families receiving 16,685 plots in the Cholistan region.

Financial Assistance & Development Grants

To ensure the land is successfully cultivated, the Punjab Government is pairing land distribution with robust financial backing:

  • One-Time Development Grant: A grant ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 250,000 per acre will be provided to successful applicants to cover initial cultivation and input costs.

  • Technical Support: Each plot will be supervised by an agriculture officer and an agricultural internee. To support youth employment, interns in this program will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 70,000.

  • Modern Equipment: Selected beneficiaries may also gain access to subsidized or interest-free machinery and modern farming equipment.

Eligibility Criteria & Strict Rules

To maintain transparency and ensure the scheme reaches the truly deserving, the following rules apply:

  1. Residency: Applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab (CNIC verification required).

  2. Landless Status: Priority is given to individuals who are landless or own less than 2 acres of land.

  3. Age Limit: The preferred age bracket is 18 to 35 years, with relaxation up to 55 years for experienced farmers.

  4. Strictly Agricultural: Land must be used exclusively for farming. Permanent construction or housing is strictly prohibited.

  5. Monitoring: Supervisory committees will conduct biannual inspections to review cultivation progress.

  5. Submit & Track: Once submitted, you can track your status via the applicant dashboard.

Note: For plots with multiple applicants, selection will be finalized through a transparent computerized lucky draw (balloting). Ensure all your data matches your official records exactly to avoid disqualification.
